When my mom moved down to Kentucky, I can honestly say I was worried about her not going out and meeting new people. It felt like she was moving down there to die...to finish out her life quietly, and simply, it was disheartening. But I, instead, hoped for her to move down there to take a chance at really living! She is someone who doesn't realize people love her for her, not for what she can do, or what she can say, but she is someone who is easy to be around. Her smile, her hugs, her laugh, her sense of humor. My mom Claudia is just wonderful!
Well, I am so glad that she has found a sister-hood in her adventures in Kentucky. The Lord has blessed her with some amazing women who have befriended her. They play cards weekly, go swimming, have a "cuss jar"! They share their lives freely with each other. They take care of each other. In this picture, they are celebrating Millie's 78th birthday!! Since her life has included these new muses, I notice a change in her. She is more relaxed. More willing to trust. Her heart has opened up a little more. She sounds as though she has found joy once again. See, she lost her mother, my grandmother, in 1992. It was a horrible, sudden, life impacting tragedy..to us. To my grandmother... it was probably the best day of her life, as it was her goal to be with Jesus. I like to think my grandma had something to do with bringing these ladies to my mom. My nephews call my mom Ya Ya...their choice, all of her grand kids have a special name for her that they picked out. My brothers children call her Mi Mum, and my sisters kids call her Ya Ya.. So, my mom has her very own Ya Ya sisterhood. I hope I am as lucky in my years to come to be graced with a group friends like this. Women in their thirty somethings don't take the time to forge friendships. We put everyone else ahead of our needs. I have so many great friends, but never get to do anything with them. Life is so short. I think I am going to try to make time to slow down and let my friends and family know just how much I enjoy just being around them.
